Welcome to my website!
By whatever means or accident, you have found the website of Wesley Hall, freelance writer of biographical fiction. Which is to say that I write about myself and what I know.
I was born in Oklahoma during the Roaring 'Twenties, grew up during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, went with my family up and down Route 66 (picking cotton, cutting grapes), joined the Navy when I was old enough, went to the South Pacific and attended a Fleet Radio School on the island of New Caledonia, worked as a high-speed code operator at NXZ, Admiral Halsey's COMSOPAC base radio station, shipped aboard a wooden subchaser and went with it north into the War Zone. I became a gunner on a 20mm. anti-aircraft gun on the subchaser, shot down two Japanese planes, ended the war at Saipan, where my ship was doing air-sea rescue duty in the Marianas Trench (The Enola Gay took off from the Tinian Island airstrip while I was there).
I made it back to the States, shipped over into the Coast Guard in 1947 and served on both coasts and in Alaska. I marriad a hometown girl and we had four children, all during the time I was earning three university degrees and teaching English on the high school, jr college, college, and university levels.
For thirteen of the forty-odd years I was teaching I lived in the Missouri Ozarks, a very remote hill region near Branson. While this was going on I was writing a series of newspaper stories that eventually became a book (The Hungry Hills).
Site Updates
This website was created on New Year's Day, 2003. Well, not all of it, of course (because the process never ends).
My eleventh and latest book!
Eagles & Canaries is a collection of light-hearted short stories about college retreads, ex-hippies, trailerhouse people, and a college English teacher going through a midlife crisis.Check it out!

This book comes out of my final years as a college English teacher (The names have been changed to protect the guilty!). At the present time I am working on the novel sequel, which will focus upon the midlife crisis of the professor and his retreads (trailerhouse girls on government grants at the college, ostensibly to learn a trade).

This Website
Although this site focuses upon my published books, I have included pages about:
The Old Navy, The Old Coast Guard, Ham Radio.
Also,as regular departments I have included:
A newsletter, How to obtain my books legally, A Works in Progress report, and My family tree. As well as other stuff, such as Garner's Pool Room (sometimes referred to disrespectfully as my Mississippi Outhouse).
